Turkish Thunder, Lesbos Rain

Unlike the past couple of days, it was a beautiful clear and bright morning. Just a short stroll down to the bakers on the corner for some croissants for breakfast, and some spinach pie for later. We eventually got our act together to go out, passing these ruins on our way to the car park nearest our house (you can get motor bikes up to our house, but not cars).
Rather than jumping straight in the car we carried on past the police station and found ourselves in a field full of angelica growing wild and tall.
Carrying on, this was the view across to a church with Turkey in the distance.
We saw (and felt!) lots of thistles like this and bigger.
We carried on through more meadows of wild flowers, and tried to find a way down and round to the harbour, but were stymied by an 8 foot drop over a wall. Not being quite as sprightly as we once were, we happily retraced our steps back to the car, and went for a delicious lunch of zucchini pie, imam and horta in the taverna down at Eftalou. We heard rumbles of thunder from a long way off, but the weather was fine. Feeling replete, we parked ourselves on the beach and happily basked until a few raindrops alerted us to the approach of the storm along the Turkish coast opposite us. This was the rain falling in the strait.
The thunder got nearer and louder, and then the lightning started. This was the whole of the storm - thunder and lightning coming from the right hand dark patch.
We took shelter in the taverna over a glass of beer while the wind came up and a bit of rain fell. We heard the thunder moving off towards Molyvos, where we returned a bit later to buy baclava and kataifi to have with cofee. Surprised when we got into town to see that it had really had a drenching - guess that's what you get for having a big tall hill for the clouds to bump into! By the time we got back to the house, all was calm once more.

This day a year ago, there was no blog post because Blogger was unavailable. Normal service was resumed the next day...
