We took delivery of our hire car and left Mitilini late this morning. Headed for Vatera on the South of the island - this was featured in today's travel Guardian's excerpt from the new edition of the Rough Guide to Greek Islands. We didn't agree with their glowing reports of the place, so went for a wander round nearby Polinichtou before going to look at Nifida on the beautiful "lagoon" of Kolpos Kallonis. No places to stay there, but a very tasty lunch and view.
Driving around Lesbos so far has been great - good (for Greece) roads and little traffic, through mile upon mile of olive groves and pine forests. Great vistas and places to gaze on for ages.
We luckily were able to get into our accomodation in Molivos earlier than arranged, so we drove through more beautiful scenery to the north of the island where we are now based for the next 10 days or so. Lots to see, but tomorrow will be a day not in the car!
I will post some photos of the views from our holiday house in later blogs - suffice it to say that we are not suffering! We have seen the setting sun today and the rise of the Super Moon over the mountains, after a delicious supper of fresh fish.
I attach some photographs from the last 24 hours - from Mitilini street art to lunchtime at Nifida to sunset at Molivos.
