Catching our breath

After yesterday's greater than expected drive, we have had an exceedingly lazy day. I eventually roused myself at about 10.30 to enjoy the sea views across the bay to the North coast of Lesbos and down to the harbour in the other direction.

After a most leisurely morning, we went for a stroll down Odos Kastrou (Castle Street, named after the castle up above us). It was then that I truly appreciated how much like Indiana Jones I had been yesterday, driving our little Honda hire-car up there with all the shops open and lots of people milling about. Our landlady, Melinda, told me when I got to the top that she didn't warn me in advance because she didn't want to freak me out!

Molivos (also called Mithinma) showed absolutely no signs of election frenzy today. The Greek people we have talked to about the election all seem heartily rejecting of the established parties, but also not sure how to vote for the best. We'll know that result soon enough - along with the French, Serbian and Armenian ones.

Managed to stroll down to the harbour to see Melinda about payment logistics. She is frantically getting her restaurant ready to open for the season on Tuesday. Had a cold drink and bumped into the Danish woman who gave our car hire driver a lift to Mitilini (50 miles away) yesterday, along with her husband. They are on Lesbos till July, when they go back to Denmark to install all the rubbish bins for a big festival - that's what they told us!

Climbed up the hill slowly, avoiding the inevitable motor bikes. Then caught up with some TV watching, occasionally catching sight of the Aegean Sea out of the corner of our eyes. It is so nice to feel that we can take time to relax rather than dashing round to fit in holiday time - what absolute luxury to have a month away!

It's now early evening and we're sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine. Will wander out for a bite to eat in a bit... Tomorrow we plan to be more active - honest!
